Stuck in a Rut – DO SOMETHING!

Its only YOU who can change your life!

Are you stuck in a situation that you can’t seemingly change?

Your life is the same day in day out.  Your job is the same.  There is nothing new happening.  Repetitive, tedious, monotonous, predictable.  Your relationships are the same.

You have to work, to earn a living and you will have to until you can’t get off your bed anymore or you drop dead!

Bored!  Fed up!  Want to escape!  Walls crowding in on you!  you hate your job!

You become easily frustrated, unforgiving, stressed out, resentful, jealous, hateful, abusive, plagued by fear, lack of self respect, depressed, the list is endless.  Sound familiar?

Well that was me, sometime ago. But thankfully I “unstuck” myself from the rut – just in time.

Negative emotions and disharmony creates significant impact on our health, even serious health issues.  The mind is very powerful and if used negatively it can damage your well being.

So what are you going to do about it? Can you quit your job? Find something that you really like doing? Can you change your circumstance and get a little bit of that “joie de vivre” back into your life?

Here are some suggestions to get yourself out of that “Rut,”  which I’ve tried 🙂

Start looking out for things that you enjoy doing.  Look for people with similar likes and hobbies.

  • Hiking – Join a group and find new terrain to take a hike.
  • Reading  – join a book club,  if you don’t like reading by yourself and do enjoy sharing thoughts.
  • Cycling – get those out of shape muscles working – ideally it should be with friends or family.
  • Jogging – Again a great way to keep fit + enjoy the outdoors (stop using the treadmill for sometime).
  • Horse riding – this may be expensive – but worthwhile if you love riding that is!
  • Cooking – if you loved it a while ago, but just can’t be bothered anymore, here’s your chance to try your hand at some new dishes. Who knows your family may thank you for it (or not). Try some of these delicious recipes Chef Par Excellence
  • Writing – share your knowledge, your skills and experiences – who knows it may help someone out there!

There is an endless list of things that you can do to free yourself from being bored. Here’s more!

If you are a paper pusher, in a boring office doing a 9-5 job, look for creative ways to make work interesting.  Look out for better opportunities and apply for other jobs that may interest you. Try learning another aspect of work in your Company.

If your relationship is boring.  You’ve been married like me 23 going on 24 to be exact, for donkey’s years, (a favourite phrase back home, which means as long as you can remember) then its time to bring a little bit of sparkle back to your marriage.

Do something nice for your spouse.  Buy some flowers or a little gift, surprise him/her with a card that simply says I love you thank you for putting up with me all these years.  Have a date night – go out, have a meal in a favourite restaurant, enjoy each others company. Try to remember why you were attracted to your spouse in the first place.

Treat him/her to something they really like – I know my husband loves cricket and rugby!  if you can afford it buy him and his buddy two tickets to watch their favourite teams.

Reality check!  I realized that there were people worse off than me, if I really took the time to bother looking, instead of focusing on myself, my needs, my cares, my worries, my boring monotonous life.

Life is not fair sometimes – but if you can make the best of it – then you end up being the winner.

No one would want to be around you, if you only grouched all day about what you didn’t have, rather look at the bright side of things.  Get out there – DO SOMETHING!

You will turn around and tell me – I don’t have the money to spare nor the time.  You don’t need money for some of the things I suggested earlier and of course if you love yourself, you will find the time to make it happen.  Come what may!

Don’t make excuses – the bottom line is  – life is too precious to sit idle – hating the situation you are in.

Its only you who can change your life!  Take hold of it now before it drags you down.

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

Can you just imagine what that means – it doesn’t mean that it stops at just about what you can handle – no it means overflowing abundance  that you won’t have room to contain it.

Trust Gods word – He is not a liar.  If He says, He will do as He says!  You can count on it!

If you are a cynic like I used to be, you may very well say, I have been giving and giving and giving but I don’t get anything in return.

Is that really true?  Think about it for a minute.  If you give of your time, your money, your belongings, sooner or later God will honour you.  Good comes back to you- that’s the law of attraction – what you give you get back! Sometimes more than you ever hoped for!

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. Psalm 37:25 (ESV)

Stop being rut minded and start moving towards living your life to the fullest.

Gods blessings!

Undeserved love

Fatigue in every part of me.  I wanted to collapse and do nothing.  Yet there was the endless chores that resembled a rope stretched into beyond!

I felt the familiar burn of anger within me, as I valiantly tried to suppress it. Lord I questioned, why does life have to be so hard?

He sits in front of the TV, switching between WWE and cricket.  A million miles away.

No words are spoken, we are trapped in our own worlds.

Why can’t he help, I silently scream!

My youngest walks into the kitchen, a boy yet I can catch a glimpse of the man he is going to be.  “Ma, what else do you have to do”?  He asks, perching one butt on the high stool.

I don’t answer.   “Can I help?” he asks.

“You don’t have to ask me!” I snap at him, continuing without taking a breath.

“there are things that you normally do to help, so get on with it!”

A quick glance, reveals a bewildered face, innocent eyes staring at me. “What did I do?” he silently questions me, confusion and hurt clouding his usually bright eyes.

Where did this monster come from?  I look away ashamed.

Why am I retaliating?  Taking my anger out on my precious son, when all he did was ask if he could help.

The yo – yo feeling is back.   I am not good enough.  I don’t deserve them.

I’ve conveniently forgotten that the man in front of the TV, is the same one who washes the dishes, arranges the house, does the toilet cleaning, mopping, taking out the dirt and a million other things that I expediently choose to forget.

Ungrateful is written in Bold across my forehead.  That’s me.

My son has escaped my scathing words and gone back to his PS vita.

I go up to him and give him a quick peck on his cheek.  “I’m sorry” I sigh.

“Its ok Ma,” he looks up at me with trusting eyes.  A huge grin breaking the ice.

All is well.  At least for the time being.

I head to my favourite spot.  My bed.

Sitting cross legged I open the bible.  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thess 5:18

Be –

  • –    used to indicate the identity of a person or thing

  • —used to describe the qualities of a person or thing

  • —used to indicate the condition of a person or thing

Well, isn’t that something to think about. Tears well and pool at the corner of my eyes.  “I am so sorry Lord, for being so ungrateful.”  My voice is hoarse with restricted tears.  “Help me!”  An agonized groan escapes by parched lips. “Help me Lord to  bless and not curse,  to thank you for all the manifold blessings that surround me.”

“Forgive me.” I whisper tiredly. sinking my tired form onto the welcoming mattress.

Much later, He walks stealthily into the dark room, lit by moonlight.  He fluffs the pillows and lets out a tired sigh as the bed sinks, accommodating his much stronger form.

A chasm separates us, yet its only a few inches between us.

I gently grab his hand.  “I’m sorry!”  Penitent words break the silence.    A calloused palm smooths my ruffled hair.

“For what?” he gently questions.  “Everything” I whisper back.  “I’m to blame as much as you.  You know that.”

Its ok.”  He squeezes my fingers as if to pass some of this strength to me through his touch.

I’m content.

I have to stop grumbling and instead start thanking, and appreciating, and loving and giving … I drift off to much needed sleep, my thoughts quieten as dreams take over, an escape from the myriad of worries that usually tug my mind constantly.

Seek God even when you don’t feel like it

The Lord says you are mine.  I created you, every bone, every sinew every muscle I knit you together.  I made you just the way you are.  So special in my sight.  Nothing can separate you from the love I have for you.

break every barrier press in press in.  God is waiting to speak he enjoys the fellowship. he wants to speak to you.  He is waiting you need to show that you are serious, committed single minded of one purpose, that you will forsake everything and search for him as if you are searching for hidden treasure.  If you knew you were going to find a million bucks how hard will you strive.

Its the same with Gods presence.  He is worth more than one million, far more precious than all the treasure the world holds.  He created all things.  He is in charge.  Don’t waste your time on pretentious pursuits, but Seek God he is waiting to surround you with his love, his care his purpose is hidden inside of you need to birth it..

Give him your heart your will and he will set you on the right path.

Create in me a clean heart o god and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not a way from your presence o lord but renew a right spirit within me.

The Last Journey

As he carried the cross to face impending death, the dust raised by his shuffling footsteps clung tenaciously to his aching muscles, raw flesh exposed by the 39 lashes dripped blood mingling with his sweat and grime from the unpaved street.  His shoulders hunched, head bent, he was determined to make it to Golgotha.  His strength was failing, sheer exhaustion had crept into every fiber of his being. He had endured pain unimaginable within the last 24 hours. He knew this was the reason He was born. Chosen to be a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.

He yearned for a drop of water to soothe his parched throat.  He stumbled, he heard gasps of pity from the sidelines, breaking the sound of the marching crowd behind Him.

“No, don’t feel sorry for me,” he mumbled.  “Feel sorry for yourselves. You don’t know what you are doing, yet the day is drawing near when the whole world will hear of this journey. The journey that I am willing to take because of my love for you.  You are special.  I don’t want to see you heading to eternal damnation and everlasting fires of hell.  No I want to give you life.”

Thoughts ran into each other, “This is my last journey on this earth. I have to make it.”

He was not going to let his Father down.

“Father,” he whispered, “strengthen me.” Determination caused Him to get a better grip on the heavy cross.  He focused on the eternal plan.  Saving humanity.  “Its worth it.  Its all worth it”! he whispered.  Every one of them! and the ones yet to be born!  its all worth it! to see them all in my fathers house! I am going to prepare a place for each of them and no one can snatch them from my hand!”

No words of anguish, escaped his lips, he shuffled along in silence.  Once or twice he glanced at the crowds on either side, catching an anxious face in his blurred vision.  He attempted to  smile, which quickly turned into a grimace of pain. His facial muscles stretched causing pain that he wasn’t aware of until then.  His beard had been plucked, leaving in its wake exposed skin, that stung in the cool breeze.

“I love you, each and everyone of you.” his eyes conveyed his feelings.

“My love for you is eternal. Choose to follow me, and what I have taught. I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me. Accept my love.  This life is temporal but there is eternity waiting for each of you.  You have to choose wisely.”

His thoughts were interrupted by a rude shove from one of the Roman guards at his side.  He knew his strength was failing, the cross was becoming heavier, his knees bent, he tried to continue, he stumbled and fell, his bleeding hands scraped the sand, his knees buckling under him, he felt the cross, crushing his shoulder bone. How much further he wondered.

“I am tired, so tired, but I must endure!” every inch hurt.

“Where are my friends?, isn’t there anyone close by, who would extend a hand to me, give me a drop of water to cool my parched throat? Where are they?”

He glanced around painfully, turning his head. His vision obscured by tears and sweat, he felt cold.  The noise of the crowd dimmed.  Was he dying.

“No not yet, now is not the time.  I have to stay alert.  I have to make it.”

He willed himself to focus.

“Father help me.” a desperate plea escaped His lips.

“Where are you?”  His spirit cried in anguish within him.

“Why have you forsaken me Father?”  He questioned.

“I need you, help me.”  The guards impatient with the slow progress of their prisoner, looked around for someone to help him carry his cross.  Their cruel hands fell on Simon,

“You, come here, pick up this cross, times running out.”

The guards were longing to go home and enjoy a hot meal, after the grueling day.  They wanted to finish the task at hand.  He felt sturdy hands helping him to his feet.   The heavy load was lifted. The scorching sun blinded him, he shook his head, trying to clear his vision and lingering faintness.

He was on his feet, they had reached the bottom of the hill, called the place of the skull.  “A little more, a little more,”he whispered.  “I can make it. I have to. He sustains me, the spirit of the Lord is with me.  I am the Son of the most high God, Yhwh is his name.”

His heart lifted. He mumbled psalms under his breath.  He felt an inner peace washing over him. Dulling his senses.  The crowd drew nearer and nearer forming a tight circle around him.  He stood there as best  He could. Brutally maimed, His hair tangled, hands raw and bleeding, His back an array of cris cross marks where  the cruel whip had torn his flesh, in some places the white of his bones could be seen through the torn robe. Journeys end was imminent.

A guard stripped him of his robe, the one his mother had lovingly made.  He glanced around, not wanting his mother to see him like this.  “Please spare her this pain, Father.  Give her the strength to go through the next few hours.” he whispered.

The garment was tossed aside, the cross lay at his feet.  Two guards  quickly placed him on the ground.  Large nails were placed closeby.  He closed his eyes.

“I can’t endure this Father.  The pain is too much.  Strengthen me.”

He felt the first jarring stab of pain, as the point of the nail pierced his hand.  A numbness took over. His other hand was nailed too.  A dribble of watery blood escaped the holes.  His feet were placed one on top of the other and he knew this was going to be the worst.  He braced himself for the first blow from the hammer.  He gritted his teeth in agony. He felt the nail tearing through his sinews, securing his feet to the wood.  “How much longer Father.”  Tears of pain, pooled at the corner of his eyes.  Yet he uttered not a word.  He kept reciting scriptures under his breath. An inscription nailed above his head read “INRI” a Latin word ‘Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum’ – ‘Jesus of Nazareth, King of Judaea’ (the land of the Jews).

Two robbers hung on either side of him.  The soldiers gambled for his clothing. The crowd taunted him, “if you are truly the son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross.”

Scripture was being fulfilled, he remembered the words of the Psalmist

Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying,
“Is this the one who relies on the Lord Then let the Lord save him!
If the Lord loves him so much, let the Lord rescue him!”

He felt a chill, looking up he saw dark storm clouds obscuring the bright day. He felt distanced from His Father. Alone.

“The Lord bless you and keep you the Lord make his face to shine upon you,….”   He saw his mother right at the front.  Her face contorted with an anguish he longed to comfort.  She was weeping uncontrollably.

“John,  his voice was soft, He tried again with effort, “John, today she has become your mother, take her and look after her.”

He felt her agony. He felt her pain. He wished he could have spared her the pain. Yet he knew His father had prepared her heart for this day.  She was strong.  His mother, Oh yes she was.  He smiled through his tears. “I love you.  Don’t be afraid.”

He willed her to be strong.  “Hold on Mother, You and I are going to be together soon.  This is only temporary.  Remember?”

He looked up, “Father, forgive these your children, they don’t know what they are doing.   he cried.

One of the guards dipped a sponge in vinegar and offered it to him. He turned his head. He longed for the end, to ease the pain.

“My God My God why have you forsaken me,” He cried.

Each breath caused excruciating pain.   He arched his back, he felt his body stretching, as if pulled by invisible hands, in two different directions. His body was one mass of sheer torture.  Each agonizing breath drew him to the end of his journey.  With his last breath he cried,

“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

It was finally over.

Jesus’ last journey on earth.

God of the Universe He KNOWS me!

He knows every thought, my plans, my ways – nothing is hid from Him

Isaiah 43:1-28

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you. Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you. …

Such knowledge is too vast for me to comprehend.

I am held in the palm of his hand, I am the apple of his eye, I am fearfully and wonderfully made, I can’t escape from his presence. He is everywhere

Hos hand leads me and holds me even if I venture into the darkness, the darkness turns to light because of His presence – because God is light.

He formed my inward parts in my mothers womb, God wrote my days even before I was born.

Ask the Lord for rain in the time of the latter rain – Zachariah 10:1

what is latter rain? Rainfall during March and April, just before harvest time.  This rain nourishes the crops and ensures a bountiful yield.

We are told in Gods word to ASK.  If we don’t ask, will he still provide?  Yes the sun shines on the good and the bad and God send rain on the just and the unjust. (Mathew 5:45)

God is a giver, so he continues to give.

But if we ASK, it shows our dependency on God, we trust his providence, not the work of our hands, or our jobs, our friends or family.  God expects us to ASK him another confirmation is given in the Lords prayer.  Give us this day our daily bread (Mathew 6:11)

Ask God for what you need today (daily).

Most of us forget to seek God once the pressing problem is sorted out.  We relax and don’t pray as much, or read His word as much, we spend less time with Him and more time doing other things.  But when we are in a bad situation, with no where else to turn, constantly we cry out to God, please help me.  And He does!  But sadly we stop after He begins to turn things around and blessings come our way.

We Stop spending time with Him or we don’t rely on Him as much as when we were in the situation!

When God starts answering your prayers, and provisions come your way, don’t stop praying continue to ask God to complete the circle by giving you latter rain.  The rain that nourishes and brings to fruition, bringing completeness and wholeness.

Don’t settle for half measures, instead trust God for all His blessings to be poured on you and your family!  Ask for the latter rain in the time of the latter rain.  In the time is the key word here!  Not two weeks later or months later, but when it is needed ask and keep on asking until you see His provision amidst adversities.

Praise God that he provides! He is our Jehovah Jireh! our Provider! All glory be to His name.
